Dr. Phil has become a household name in this country, and I just don’t understand that.
People with real problems go on his show to be humiliated on TV, and he gets famous? He takes it too far at times, kicking people when they are already down. But hey, if Paris Hilton can be famous, Dr. Phil should be too.
If someone is stupid enough to go on his show instead of facing their battles by seeking traditional counseling let them look like idiots for the world to mock.
We all need to be accountable; I would never disagree there. But there’s a place for it. It’s not on an afternoon talk show hosted by a dramatic host with an inflated ego.
Someone I spoke to today said “He (Dr. Phil) judges stupid people and boomerangs them to get ratings from our ignorant populace.”
He couldn’t have said it better unless he added in what Bill O’Reilly had to say several months ago. Bill said that adults were within right to make fools of themselves on national TV, but he failed to understand how those people (many of whom are parents) could subject their children to such post appearance ridicule.
Well Bill, I think the reason shows like Dr. Phil and Jerry Springer receive such good ratings is that their viewers enjoy watching people struggle or fail. Our society has become consumed with lazy, self-loathing people who take pleasure in the pain and heartache of people they will never meet. It sounds to me like Dr. Phil needs to counsel his viewers.
I’m not sure how people like Dr. Phil have jobs, but I do know how they keep them. Dr. Phil gets paid at the expense of down-trodden, pathetic individuals who lack the self-esteem to expect more – out of themselves and out of those around them.
I don’t know how he sleeps at night, but I don’t think I’ll be watching his show or reading his books to find out.
